Hôpitaux de Marseille: VINCI Facilities is back in the game!

VINCI Facilities Tertiaire Provence Sud was awarded a contract by l’Assistance publique – Hôpitaux de Marseille (AP-HM) to take corrective action on fixtures and fittings for two hospitals, each over 270,000m2 in size.
After starting on 1 June 2020, the contract is scheduled to last four years.

Jacques Zivec, head of the company, spoke to us about this success.

Tell us more about the context of this call for tender?

AP-HM is a client we know well as we already worked for them under a DBOM contract between 2006 and 2016. They had dropped out of our client portfolio for the last four years, but we had stayed in touch.

They have been outsourcing their corrective maintenance for three years now and had originally chosen to work with a construction company. It was our colleagues at VINCI Construction France (VCF) who won the contract.

The teams from VCF had the right technical skills but lacked the structure and tools for such a job (4,000 intervention requests per year). That is why, at the beginning of the year, AP-HM decided to look to maintenance providers, like VINCI Facilities.

Why bid for this kind of contract?

It’s true that fixtures and fittings don’t fall within our core business, but this contract appealed to us for two reasons:

  1. Regain a former client and ultimately offer a wider range of services (including HVAC, electricity, plumbing and services)
  2. Develop a fixtures and fittings division to internalise previously outsourced services

How did you set VINCI Facilities apart from the competition?

Because we know the client and they know our strengths as we had already built up a trusted relationship over 10 years.

And we have a powerful asset – the synergy with our colleagues at VCF.
Their feedback enabled us to better understand the situation and accurately assess the workload. Furthermore, we suggested to keep on some of the old team, including the site manager who had done a sterling job over the last few years.

Our account manager, Gérard Sanna, and business development manager, Nicolas Baudier, did a great job in preparing the technical and financial bid.

Which services are covered by the contract?

The call for tender was split into three packages (one per hospital). We won two of the three – the Timone hospital (272,000 m2) and the Conception hospital (275,000 m2).

Today, eight VINCI Facilities technicians work full time maintaining the following areas:

  • Roller shutters
  • Joinery
  • Locksmithery
  • Suspended ceilings
  • Floor finishings
  • Walls and windows

At the same time, we are working on our Excellence Programme to improve the working conditions for our teams on site. The aim is to optimise on site delivery by adapting equipment transportation and movement (on average 12-15 km).

Value of the contract: €850k annual flat fee
