Eliove: a new business unit providing solar solutions for buildings

Driven by a sense of environmental urgency, energy sector stakeholders (suppliers, operators and companies) are stepping up their efforts to boost energy efficiency across their operations. One initiative worth exploring further is the installation of solar panels on the roofs of service sector buildings.

Under current legislation, only large retailers and logistics companies are required to install photovoltaic panels on their – hypermarket and warehouse – roofs. More progress could be made on the office building front.

That is the idea behind Eliove – a new French business unit that is installing photovoltaic panels on VINCI Energies buildings, with no initial financial investment, human investment or risks involved.

The first step on its roadmap is to assess the roofs of the 160 buildings the Group owns in France, followed by the 400 structures it rents there.

Eliove handles all project phases, including the feasibility studies, establishment of a business plan and a funding model, investment, project management, contract centralisation, and operations and maintenance over a 20‑year period. All clients need to do is make their roof available. Eliove outsources the installation and maintenance work to the relevant business units within the Group. It is a win-win situation all round – VINCI Energies business units get to produce their own “green energy” and fitters are guaranteed a large number of photovoltaic projects.

IEP in Limoges (city in the centre of France) is the first VINCI Energies business unit to have an Eliove solution installed on its roof, which spans 810 sq. meters.
