Belgium: new success in the hospital sector
The new hospital campus “AZ Delta” was built last June in Roeselare, West Flanders.
This hospital, one of the region’s largest, covers a total area of 120,000 square metres, with 700 in-patient and 75 out-patient beds.
The project was assigned to VK Architects & Engineers, a design, engineering and architecture firm that already enjoys international recognition for similar projects.

The campus comprises three different buildings:
• The main building houses all medical functions, including care units and out-patient clinics, consulting rooms, intensive care, operating theatres, dialysis centre and medical technical services.
• The logistical building contains the central kitchen, pharmacy, warehouse, laboratories, sterile services department, and the Radar learning and innovation centre.
• The third building is the energy plant. Among other things, this building houses the boiler room, refrigeration plant, compressors and emergency generators.
During the design phase, teams from Cegelec Belgium installed the HVAC and sanitation facilities in the operating theatres, care units and medical imaging rooms.
On completion of these works, teams from VINCI Facilities took up the baton. Over the next five years, Kurt Bourry’s team, under the direction of Pedro Jodts, will handle the preventative maintenance of air handling units, fan coil units, boilers, cogeneration systems, heat pumps, steam boilers and cooling machinery.
This team has worked for many years in close cooperation with AZ Delta’s technical department, also handling maintenance on their campus sites at Menen and Brugsesteenweg Roeselare.
VINCI Facilities is steadily establishing itself in Belgium as a key player in hospital technical maintenance.
