Unity is strength: VINCI Facilities Alsace secures contract for the RHÉNA clinic
The RHÉNA clinic is an institution in Strasbourg (east of France). The building combines the activities of three denominational clinics on a single site, including 30 operating theatres, plus obstetrics, emergency and rehabilitation departments.
In 2020, the clinic initiated a call for tenders for multi-technical maintenance of the site, offering an opportunity for VINCI Facilities Alsace to add this tremendous facility to its customer portfolio.
We look back at how the contract came about…👇
Background to the call for tenders
For two years, Ivan Dworniczek – BU manager – has been building a relationship of trust with the leading HVAC company in Alsace, GCE (Génie Climatique de l’Est). With this partner on board, he knew his business unit was capable of taking on the most complex and long-term projects. When RHÉNA initiated its call for tenders, it was the incumbent provider GCE that suggested VINCI Facilities should bid.
What made the difference
There were three firms competing for the deal, including one big hitter in Cofely, pushing VINCI Facilities to go further with the Energy Performance Contract (EPC).
GCE and VINCI Facilities proposed an average reduction of 8%, or €50,000 per year, in the building’s energy consumption (with bonus/penalty clause). They also promised the customer full control over the energy contract, with the option to renegotiate purchasing conditions after a year.
Another essential factor was the involvement of Cyril Ballivet, the division’s energy expert, who supported VINCI Facilities for 18 months in the study and implementation phases, and was able to add credibility to their proposals.
All this culminated in a three-year contract signed!
Unity is strength
As Ivan Dworniczek explains, “This is our first energy project in Alsace and our first hard-fought binding EPC! This success demonstrates our business unit’s agility – we are able to listen to the customer on a set-up to suit them and react accordingly. The partnership with GCE was our guarantee of safety and quality provision. Together, we were able to make the deal.”
With thanks to Christophe Marchal, Sullivan Chatendeau and Guillaume Hoff for their contribution.
