VINCI Facilities wins the new RTE Campus!
The electricity transmission network RTE (in France) has awarded VF FM Rhone a multi-technical maintenance contract for its training and innovation campus in Jonage, near Lyon. TwinOps will manage the site’s BIM model.
Here, the business manager of VF FM Rhone, Guillaume Challe, reviews the main stages of the project.
How did you approach RTE?
RTE was already part of our customer portfolio. Unfortunately, VINCI Facilities had not been selected in RTE’s previous national call for tender, but we redoubled our efforts to ensure that RTE’s management would choose to work with us again in the Lyon region.
Our operation to “charm” them came to fruition when they asked us to handle the operation of their “Transfo Campus” in Jonage.
It’s a national training campus, which will be doubling in size this autumn. This is a real flagship site covering more than 60,000 square metres, where trainee fitters can learn in real-world conditions on industrial replicas of electricity pylons.
Why did you bid for this project?
This is an almost magical contract for us. It combines all the expertise VINCI Facilities has to offer: from multi-technical maintenance for my team to BIM management for TwinOps and a role for VINCI Facilities Entreprise Adaptée (a full-time post for a disabled person).
We put a lot of energy into fine-tuning our technical response. Given the innovative nature of the instructions, the customer gave us three case studies, which we had to address in a precise, expert and innovative way.
Winning this contract and renewing their confidence in VINCI Facilities was a bet on the future. We always have an eye on the next national call for tender and hope that the work put in now will pay off later.
What kinds of technical assistance is VINCI Facilities providing?
It varies widely: we are involved in HVAC, power supply, extra-low voltage, interior construction, fire safety systems, access control, video surveillance, plumbing, BIM management, and so on.
We’ll be paying special attention to the electrical systems, which are the core of RTE’s business.
We currently have three employees working on site full time.
What role did TwinOps play in this success?
BIM for operation is entirely new to our business unit. That’s why we approached TwinOps for assistance on this project. Their expertise in this area enabled us to stand out from the competition.
A TwinOps advisor will run training for our technicians and ensure that the BIM model of the site is kept up-to-date, and will collect, audit and verify the building data.
