Zigbee and Z-Wave wireless protocols being rolled out at GTIE Rennes
Zigbee and Z-Wave are short-range wireless communication protocols. Developed for smart home applications, they consume far less energy than Bluetooth and WiFi, and thus offer long battery life.
Both protocols run on mesh networks, so that all devices can communicate with each other without going through the central hub.
They are used for control and monitoring within buildings, where they are more cost-effective than wired technologies.
Because they use less energy, they can transfer very little data. They should therefore be used in targeted applications such as controlling doors, sensors or light switches.
