TwinOps represented at Autodesk University

The annual Autodesk University conference, held from 19 to 21 November in Las Vegas, brought together more than 12,000 people. Mathieu Rigaud and Mustapha Bismi, TwinOps manager and CTO, had an opportunity to present this new range of digital services for buildings.

Autodesk is a leading publisher of 3D design, engineering and entertainment software. Since its launch in 1982, Autodesk has steadily developed a very broad range of advanced software for world markets. Every year, it organises a large gathering in Las Vegas, Nevada to bring together people working in networker design, architecture and engineering to share best practices and discuss the major innovation topics of the future.

The main thrust of Autodesk is based on capitalising on data derived from the use of their software. Their goal is to offer a comprehensive “smart” robotic value chain for tomorrow’s construction.

An overview of the new innovations presented at the conference:

♦  Broader support in the Assemble solution for the latest version of the Autodesk, AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks design tools; This solution is an additional solution to compare the versions of the mockup. We already had access to this functionality via Navisworks.

♦  American builder DPR Construction presented its new as-built file tool, VueOps.The development roadmap for this solution is very similar to the TwinOps solution as it now stands.

♦  BuildingConnected (an Autodesk company) supports immediate estimates of 2D views with its Bid Board Pro software;

♦  The PlanGrid application now makes it possible to directly record videos in the application and to provide more comments from the worksite. This software is costly – €4,000/month/users. It does not support the move from 2D to 3D and vice-versa. We would rather recommend Dalux, a free solution that is better suited to movement in the field and supports note-taking on BIM views.

♦  Improvements in all BIM 360 modules, with advanced integration, for example between the Construction IQ and BIM 360 drawing revision functions.

TwinOps at Autodesk University

VINCI Facilities was represented in the Forge – Connect & Construct village, where it presented the new version of TwinOps to clients and prospects. The programme included live demonstrations of the platform’s functionalities and advantages. Meanwhile, Mathieu Rigaud moderated a presentation of the various TwinOps use cases and business uses. The solution was warmly welcomed because it meets a growing construction industry need for better management of building data. The market is broad and is predominantly held by American companies, but with promising channels in Asia and Europe.

In the Autodesk network-partnership corner, discussions with decision-makers and international developer teams showed that the shared view is that BIM Exploitation, unknown just a few years ago, has become an indispensable strategic tool in the short term. Future BIM evolutions are eagerly awaited and will be closely examined by the entire industry.

The next steps for TwinOps

In terms of organisation, Mathieu Rigaud will become PRIMATICE operations manager starting on 1 January 2020.

PRIMATICE (the business unit formerly responsible for the Crédit Agricole IDF contract), which is part of Christophe Rousseau’s pole and is overseen by Romain Fronteau, will be exclusively focused on the development, promotion and marketing of the TwinOps range. The business unit, which will soon have a team of 13 employees, is set to further expand to meet growing market demand.

As for future contracts, VINCI Airports is interested in the solution to operate the Lyon, Santiago and Lisbon airports. The Data Center team headed by André Moreira is working closely with TwinOps to set up BIM Exploitation at its sites. Lastly, the solution is expected to be delivered to the Thales industrial site in Etrelles as the first BIM Light digitalisation project, and rolled out across several schools PPPs (public private partnerships) in Germany, the first of which is in Bergheim.

This excellent outlook shows that the best is yet to come!
