POCs Building Solutions : status of the IOT solutions catalogue

Background

The regional management of VEF Facilities Sud Centre Est drew up a digital roadmap at the end of 2019.

The regional director Fabien Ferrari and digital manager Karim Nana had identified the need to create a catalogue of IoT offers, setting out their functional benefits in order to inform customers and enable building operations monitoring.

The role of digital manager is relatively new to our teams. Karim started in the energy performance cell, where he was responsible for analysing and monitoring IoT energy feedback for the management of EPCs (energy performance contracts).
This need has grown to cover the four main segments of the FM wheel.

Approach

The IoT catalogue is one of the projects subsidised and overseen by the Building Solutions network, as part of the call for POCs.

The catalogue is based on several defining principles:

  • The IoT offer must be based on a customer or operator need; digital is simply a tool for meeting these and part of a wider approach to FM. This is why the catalogue is based on the FM wheel;
  • The catalogue will be available to operational teams, who will be jointly involved in creating it with Karim;
  • This project also allow reflection on the overall digital process of rolling out IoT: the skills required internally (needs analysis, data analysis), the processes to implement these offers and the external partnerships to be considered (logistics and programming).

Outcomes

The brainstorming workshops came up with around twenty solutions based on usage cases.

Follow-up actions

The project will proceed in several stages. Brainstorming workshops have already taken place. The actions to be taken relate to:

  • The partnership with the logistical distributor;
  • The software developer for the data recovery platform;
  • Building the website with a team of engineers from the École Centrale de Lyon;
  • Communication and training for the operational teams.
