On 9 July of this year, Le Moniteur (a French press group) held its first innovation day at Station F in Paris. The iconic space, inaugurated in 2017, hosts startups in France.

The 2019 Innovation Day event drew an audience of 500 to hear 62 presentations relating to innovation in construction in France and abroad. They were given in plenary sessions and sets of workshops on specific themes.

Building Solutions attended the event. Here are the key points we noted:

• The most widely represented innovations related to the environment in cities and new sustainable construction methods;
• Wood is making a big breakthrough; 
• Green roofs are no longer rare and are becoming a common feature of architectural projects; 
• Limiting water consumption has now become a priority.
