Smart Building: 3 large-scale pilot projects

Arp-Astrance has organized a breakfast on Tuesday the 10th of July, to share the lessons learned of 3 Smart Buildings pilot projects. This early conference assembled more than 80 participants: owners, contractors, engineering firms & equipment suppliers.

The presented projects included the new VINCI headquarter « Archipel », which received lately the pilot #LabelR2S for the design phase, the « 16 George V » Building of Allianz and the « Tours Duo » of Ivanhoé Cambridge (a VINCI Construction / VINCI Energies project)

The 3 speakers explained the rational for undertaking the Smart Building adventure. They are looking to increase the value of the building by prioritizing the end user comfort and satisfaction. A digital and flexible building, easy to operate and maintain, which can offer a variety of services is a building capable of satisfying promoters & buyers.

Even though the R2S label helped them to better characterize their networks and systems, by following clear and concrete criteria, many open questions are yet to be analyzed in the near future:

• What is the right database format for these modern buildings? How to operate and maintain those complex IT objects, while Facility Managers already have a hard time managing large As-Built files and complex BMS (Building Management Systems)?
• Which breakdown between promoters and buyers?
• How to ensure the protection of personal data?

The big turnouts of participants show that “Smart Building” is an important topic in the world of con-struction today. To respond to the increasing demand for Smart Building projects, the 80 specialists of Arp-Astrance are on the lead for design & technical consulting.
