New energy efficient swimming pool in Belgium
The city of Bredene awarded LAGO for the construction of a new swimming pool on the Grasduinen domain. The swimming pool group will build one of the largest gas-free swimming pool complexes in Belgium in the coastal municipality by the second half of 2024. The 3,000 sq. meters building will be completely CO2 neutral. To make that possible, the roof is covered with 761 solar panels.
The current swimming pool in Bredene must close its doors in 2024 because of environmental legislation. The municipality announced a while back that they wanted to build a new swimming pool in Grasduinen and they went looking for a private partner. The plans are now ready. The municipality is going into business with LAGO to build a new swimming pool complex. The swimming pool group will build one of the largest gas-free swimming pool complexes in Belgium, in Bredene. The 3,000 sq. meters building will be completely CO2 neutral. To make this possible, the roof is covered with no fewer than 761 solar panels that generate as much electricity each year as the annual consumption of 60 families. That energy production, in combination with geothermal energy, means that the swimming pool in Bredene can run completely electrically and therefore emit no CO2 at all. The pool will also use 50 percent less energy per visitor than a traditional pool.
“LAGO Bredene Grasduinen will be the swimming pool of the future,” says Diether Thielemans, CEO of LAGO. “We have deliberately gone the green way. It was our goal anyway to build climate-neutral swimming pools and avoid CO2 emissions. However, the increasingly expensive gas and electricity tariffs are accelerating our energy transition.”
Cegelec HVAC Public North and Cegelec Elec North will take care of the technical installations and VINCI Facilities Long Term Projects will ensure the maintenance under full guarantee for the duration of the operating contract.
