Cegelec Morocco helps build the tallest tower in Africa

A consortium including VINCI Energies Côte d’Ivoire and Cegelec Morocco was selected by Pierre Fakhoury Operator Africa (PFO-A) to work on a general contracting basis on Tour F in Abidjan.

Abidjan’s administrative district will soon be home to a sixth tower. Tour F, Africa’s highest tower, will rise 404 metres into the Ivorian sky. It will accommodate administrative services, offices, conference rooms and catering spaces on 75 levels.

The project was awarded to PFO Africa, led by the Lebanese/Ivorian architect Pierre Fakhoury. Cegelec Morocco had already worked with this customer on the Tour Postel and the renovation of Towers A and B, and this contract was secured thanks to a trust relationship built up over a long period.

The contract covers the general contracting works, including climate control and ventilation, fire protection, smoke extraction, electrical systems, access control and video surveillance.

Construction of a super-high-rise building (over 200 metres) requires precision in the design and execution phases. As Najat Saouf, Cegelec Morocco’s design office director, explains: “We are paying particular attention to the regulatory safety requirements for super-high-rise building, which apply in addition to the provisions for high-rise buildings.”

It is also worth noting that the teams will be using a shared BIM 360 model throughout the project. The model will feature “as-built” precision (LOD500), i.e. the most complete modelling possible, with enough detail to manufacture the components represented. Also usable in the operation phase, this is a must-have tool for projects on this scale.

Structural work will begin in July 2021 for a duration of 3 ½ years. At its peak, the project will involve more than 250 on-site technicians and supervisors.

Contract value: €59.3 million in total
