Cegelec Belgium taking part in the new complex of InnovOcean Campus

The new campus of the Flemish Institute for Sea (VLIZ) and the Institute for Agricultural, Fisheries and Food Research (ILVO) will be located on the East bank in Ostend (Belgium).

Under the name InnovOcean Campus, the VLIZ will involve its project partners and the Ostend branch of the ILVO on the East Bank in a new building. Both Flemish institutes in Ostend were struggling with housing problems.

The VLIZ is currently housed in the buildings of the fish market, which is being redeveloped.

The marine science department of ILVO was confronted with high energy bills, moisture and unsafe working conditions in its buildings from the seventies.

The new building will be located on fallow land next to the current ILVO fisheries research building. The InnovOcean Campus will include offices, a conference centre, a sea library, physico-chemical laboratories, aquaculture laboratories and a workshop.

The campus is a compact NEN (Nearly Energy Neutral) building. Other aspects of sustainable building such as low-maintenance and healthy materials, water (re)use, integral accessibility, daylight and acoustic comfort are also applied in the building.

The building is scheduled to come into use by the spring of 2022.

Description of works: HVAC, electricity and sanitary works for a new research center (8.650 m²).

Amount: 4.7 M€
