Bosman Bedrijven aims high with "Valley" in Amsterdam

It’s the combination of working, living and enjoying. The mix of concrete with green terraces. The size of the complex and the different shapes everywhere. Indeed, nothing about Valley is average or normal. It’s rather exceptional.

This spectacular construction is designed by architect Winy Maas from architectural firm MVRDV, on behalf of developer EDGE Technologies. For Bosman Bedrijven, it’s an interesting challenge to contribute to Valley.

Nothing is straightforward

From the start, it was clear that the building and installation standards are sky high. Valley is a dynamic building, because of the alternation between the caves (where the shape has been drawn in) and the bay windows (where the shape protrudes).

Bosman Bedrijven started the engineering job in 2016. Due to the special design, each part had to be made from scratch regarding the BIM model and the engineering. Then there is the combination of various functions that turn the installation into a major challenge. Take into account: Valley covers 75,000 square meters, includes 200 apartments, has 7 layers of office space, a 3-layer parking garage, a sky bar, shops and cultural facilities. Each function requires different installations.

High ambitions

The highest performance levels regarding sustainability, innovation and smart building characterize the buildings our partner EDGE Technologies creates. Prime example is The EDGE, that was voted world’s most sustainable office building in 2015.

In that spirit, we are building a new generation of buildings with Valley. Think solar panels, the offsite energy production (district cooling and heating), energy efficiency installations, triple glazing, climate ceilings (cooling and heating), LED lighting and a cloud-based building management system. All these features contribute to the high ambitions and the achievement of a BREEAM Excellent certificate.

Dedicated team

Despite the challenges of the corona crisis, Bosman Bedrijven has been working hard to meet the deadlines. Earlier this year, Jaco Duijst, director of projects at Bosman Bedrijven, expressed his compliments for the exceptional performance of the entire construction team.

In the meantime, the basic shell has been completed and the project will soon reach its highest point. “We are in the completion phase of the apartments; they will be realized early next year,” says Jaco Duijst. “The commercial part of the building is scheduled for the end of 2020. Completion will take place next June. We will do our utmost to get the job done in the upcoming eight months.”
