A large-scale hospital project in Belgium

Last May, teams from Cegelec Belgium welcomed Arnaud Grisson, CEO of VINCI Energies, and Julio de Almeida, Managing Director of VINCI Energies Europe West, on a visit to the ZNA hospital site in Anvers.

This is one of the most high-profile healthcare sector projects Cegelec teams are currently involved in.

What is it about?

This is a brand-new hospital being built on behalf of the project owner, “Ziekenhuis Netwerk Antwerpen (ZNA)”, and should be completed in 2020.

Cegelec is responsible for electrical and HVAC installations as a subcontractor for the main contractor Interbuild-MBG.

The hospital will have a particularly small footprint, with an effective surface area of 68,000 m² over 19 floors. The basement alone provides 47,000 m² of floor space.  This large-scale project will provide Anvers with a hospital that will stand out both for the verticality of its architecture and the cutting-edge technologies used.

The hospital contains 14 operating theatres, a serious burns unit and many other services, such as intensive care, dialysis, psychiatry, medical imaging, haematology and A&E department. There will also be 450 rooms, a restaurant and more.

Cegelec is managing the “Design & Build” phase. The construction survey was conducted using clean architectural plans, the project brief and design notes.

Completed works include: high voltage system and transformers, emergency generators, cogeneration equipment, low-voltage distribution, geothermal energy system (5,600 metres of drilling), hot water supply, cold water supply, ventilation units (770,000 m³/hour) and distribution network, fire detection, access control, CCTV, data network, and building management system.
