Document mobility solutions
EEP was the first business unit to develop a simple, cost-effective mobility tool that delivers highly satisfactory results. It is cost-effective because it is based on the Microsoft software suite to which we already subscribe without utilising its full potential.
The idea is to share a OneDrive account, equip Project Managers and Site Supervisors with 4G tablets (iPads) or smartphones and copy all updated design study documents to this account. This eliminates the need to carry sets of hard copy drawings. An even greater advantage is that comments and photographs can be attached to the drawings. The design office then sees that the document has been changed and directly updates the file to take account of the comments sent from the worksite.
Cegelec Alsace Sud Tertiaire further improved the system by appending QR codes to the front of electrical panels and equipment. The technician scans QR code to automatically open the drawings for the equipment in OneDrive, and no longer needs to search for the right document in a scrolling list.
These solutions are simple. They support enhanced responsiveness at lower cost and remove the need to carry cumbersome sets of hard copy drawings. They give our business units a positive, contemporary image. They correspond to the internal processes of our business units.
If snag list items are to be entered or processed in a collaborative tool (FunBim, FinalCad, Sixense, etc.), the solutions require more costly subscriptions.
