Renovation of a SIGNA™ Premier MRI system by Masselin Tertiaire

France: Masselin Tertiaire recently won the €223,000 contract to renovate an MRI system at the CYCERON research centre in Caen.

This SIGNA™ Premier MRI system is only the third to be installed in France. It has greater electrical (250 A) and HVAC (120 KW cooling) requirements than most MRI systems installed today.

François Faguais’s teams (Business unit manager of Masselin Tertiaire) completed a range of tasks for the customer, including the removal and replacement of the block wall (concrete removal) to allow access to replace the existing MRI scanner with the new one; creating a chilled water system with a dedicated 120 KW power generator with plate heat exchanger; installing a secondary network with a range of chilled water and ADS1 (mains water supply failover); and installing and powering special equipment linked to the MRI system (technical alarm, electrical cabinet for normal supply, electrical cabinet for uninterruptible supply, emergency extractor cabinet and control, and temperature sensor in the equipment room).

The added value Masselin Tertiaire brought to this project relates to its expertise and experience of general contracting in relation to medical-sector machinery (MRI systems, scanners, gamma cameras, etc.). The experience gained from several MRI installations previously completed in close collaboration with GE Healthcare enabled them to strategically plan the installation of this new MRI system.

The project manager for this site was Guillaume Trinh Van, seconded by Anne-Charlotte Harnois, Assistant PM, and Fanny Conan, Assistant Works Manager.
